But when visiting Brisbane you might also want to check out the surrounding areas as there is so much fun stuff to do outside the city, and also some truly awesome spots to spend the night to get some peace and quiet in beautiful settings.
So whether you are looking to get outside the bustling city for some different activities, or if you’re looking to spend some nights outside Brisbane, but still be close enough to enjoy the benefits of a bustling city, we have some spots you should definitely check out while visiting the area!
Fun outside the city
You should absolutely try to plan your trip to the Brisbane area around The Royal Queensland Show also known as Ekka. This is the largest, and a very loved, annual event in the city which attracts on average 400,000 people each year. It takes place for 10 days in August, and it is known for bringing the country and city together for a true celebration of agriculture. Ekka showcases the best of Queensland attracting over 10,000 animals, world-class live entertainment, award-winning food and wine, carnival rides and fun educational activities for the entire family. This is a really cool event and one to make any holiday in the area extra unique.
If you want more animals on your holiday, White Ridge Farm is a good option. White Ridge Farm is based on the Northside of Brisbane, and it is a haven for all sorts of animals. They regularly take in animals that need to be re-homed by their owners. All the animals are hand raised where some are orphans and others were born on the farm. You will get to meet many different animals like goats, sheep, ducks, mini pig, chicken, alpacas and more. You will get to feed and pet the animals, and it is a truly heart warming experience.
Another option to experience the farm life up close is to make your way to Tommerup’s Dairy Farm. Here you will also be able to join animal feeding activities done with the farming family themselves, as well as experience the life working on a dairy farm. You also have the option to do a farm stay accommodation to fully emerge yourself in the life on the farm. Make sure you make a booking if you want to head here for any activities or simply buy their products.
Unique stays outside the city
We recommend you to stay at this next place, but it is also a great place to just visit for fun activities and events. Mt Barney Lodge has many different unique options for places to stay at the grounds. You can camp, sleep in a deluxe camper trailer, rent a rustic cabin or stay in their Queenslander Homesteads. No matter what you choose the area is perfect for tranquility and peace, but there is also plenty to do with great hiking, rock activities and other fun local events. The best part about this spot is the glorious location in the beautiful Scenic Rim next to the World Heritage-listed Mt Barnet National Park.
Another great option to get outside the city and enjoy some stunning nature is to go to Alcheringa. This is a holiday house within the Lamington National park which is adjacent to the Binna Burra Lodge in the Gold Coast Hinterland of South East Queensland. From the house you will be able to see the beautiful scenery, but there are over 145 km of walking tracks in Lamingtons where you can see diverse nature like waterfalls, subtropical rainforest, ancient Antarctic beech trees, wildflowers and so much more. We recommend a longer stay in this glorious spot.
Still more into the camp life? Well, there is another brilliant option for camping. Bluff Creek Campgrounds is located in Kenilworth, and it is just awesome! It is a small scale and simple campground where you will have space and privacy in beautiful surroundings. Whether you are traveling with your partner or in a group of friends or family, this spot is ideal as it is located on the bend of a beautiful creek, so there are many swimming holes and the option to fish in the area. You will also find surrounding villages and markets to explore while spending time here. The best part, pets are very welcome too!
So whether you have planned a big city adventure to Brisbane or not, do not forget these excellent options to get outside the city to explore some beautiful nature and fun activities!
