Albania Flights Guide

Officially known as the Republic of Albania, Albania is a sovereign state of about 3 million people located on a Southeastern Coast of Europe. Located under 100km from Italy, ancient Albania was home to certain classical Greek tribes and housed sections of the Byzantine Empire. The country was once a Soviet block country, but with the fall of Communism has become a fast-developing nation with a strong Eastern European culture.

The capital of Albania is Tirana, located in the Western region of the country and west of the Dajti Mountains. It houses both the modern Albanian government and also important Roman and Byzantine ruins. The second largest city in Albania is Durres, though with a population of only 200,000 people, it is considered significantly less important.

Tirana International Airport, which is located near capital city Tirana, boasts the largest number of international travelers and is considered the largest commercial international airport in Albania. It is also considered the only airport with domestic and international commercial flights. Albania has a relatively varied climate for its relatively small area. Parts of the country are located on the Adriatic and Ionian Sea, which have a typically Mediterranean climate, though part of the country is located on the elevated Balkan landmass, making it colder and wetter than other parts of the country, and the mountains of Albania feature a subarctic climate.
