Kos Flights GuideKos (also known as Cos) is a popular Greek Island located off its Aegean Coast. It is located within the Dodecanese Island Chain, and is the third largest, after Rhodes and Karpathos. The island is known for a 14th century fortress at the face of the harbor, and a modern municipal market which, built in the 1930s, is considered a thriving commercial center. Kos is also home to the fascinating Hippocrates Museum, as HIppocrates was rumored to be a resident of the Island.
The nearby Islands of Rhodes and Karpathos comprise Kos' nearby cities. Travel between the Islands is not considered difficult, and many visitors to Kos also visit the other Dodecanese Islands. Travel to the mainland of Greece is best done via ferry, of which there are many that depart frequently and vary in cost.
Kos, like so many Greek Isles, features long, hot, dry summers and incredibly mild, though somewhat wet winters. It is a popular holiday destination in the summer and the winter for this reason. The best time of the year to take a trip to Kos is in the summer, when the weather is at its sunniest. However, this is also the most popular time to visit, so expect crowds of Greeks, Europeans and even Americans and Australians on holiday if you visit during the months of June, July, August and September.
