Lafayette Flights GuideFind yourself along the Vermillion River in Southwestern Louisiana and you'll no doubt find yourself in Lafayette, the most populated city on this majestic river. It is the fourth largest in the state, no more than a stone's throw from New Orleans, but boasting its own unique culture, from outposts of Cajun heritage to the Acadian Cultural Center, and even an old Acadian village and former home of Louisiana's first Democratic governor.
New Orleans is an obvious stopover for those who make their way to Lafayette. It is located along the i-10 highway, which crosses the entire continental United States. It also contains the Lafayette Regional Airport, which has flights to Houston, Dallas, Denver and Atlanta.
The weather in Lafayette reflects a humid subtropical climate, featuring year-rain rain showers, even and especially in the summertime. Humidity is high in Lafayette, with summers being the most extreme, though winters can be damp as well. Visitors tend to prefer early Spring and late Fall for a visit, in order to avoid the rather stifling humidity of the high summertime and the damp rainy season of November and December. Some people also suggest avoiding hurricane season, which culminates in late Autumn. Of course, Mardi Gras season is a popular time to visit all over the state, not just New Orleans.
